Meet some of our residents of Pouchie.z Kangaroo Sanctuary—unreleasable macropods living safely in protected compounds on our 87-acre property at Monarto South, SA. These kangaroos and wallabies survived car strikes, hunting, fences, and cruelty, now thriving with lifelong care through specialised nutrition, veterinary support, and enriched habitats. Each has a unique rescue journey.

Coco's Rescue Story

Pouchie.z's first forever compound resident.

Tragedy struck when her mum was hit and killed by a car in Littlehampton, SA, flinging tiny Coco from the pouch, sustaining serious injuries.

Rushed to an experienced wildlife vet for emergency surgery: broken foot pinned and cast to stabilise her.

6 weeks later, cast removed, revealed unpredicted damage—permanent toe immobility. Referred to an orthopaedic surgeon for toe amputation surgery.

Through long recovery and patient rehab, Coco relearnt to hop, fully adapting.

Today, she thrives—exploring, socialising in her safe habitat.

Hunting horror: Shooter killed his mum, leaving tiny Nelg orphanedgiven to children as a toy, played with for days.

Today he thrives—strong hops, safe forever.

Heartbreak on highway as cars swerve around deceased mum—no one stopped to help orphaned joey hanging from pouch.

Swedish family holidaying in Australia saw tragedy, bravely stopped traffic, and rescued tiny Wati from careless bypasses.

Rushed to critical care: shocked and dehydrated, immediate incubation stabilising him, follow by medical examination and fluid therapy.

Through months of specialised care, Wati is confident, meeting milestones and thriving happily in care.

Through patient surrogate care, Eighter is strong and affectionate.

Today Eighter thrives—hopping freely, no fear.

Motorbike terror: Riders spooked mum bursting from scrub—Waru was thrown from the pouch.

The Public rescued: Uneducated locals realised harm, traced cries, and delivered Waru to sanctuary.

Critical condition: Shaken/bruised/emotionally traumatised, immediate critical care and long-term rehabilitation.

Through gentle expert care and counterconditioning, Waru is healing emotionally.

Today he bounds happily—trust restored, forever safe.
