Our Sanctuary
Pouchie.z Kangaroo Sanctuary, a non-profit located in Monarto South, South Australia. Established in November 2021, we provide a safe and enriched haven for orphaned joeys, offering them a forever home, which is critically needed in South Australia, where it is illegal to release orphans back into the wild, for good reason. For each joey we take in, we commit to providing 20 years on average of dedicated care and support.
Our sanctuary is situated on our privately-owned property spanning 87 acres, with 60 acres of native, established heathlands. We have recently expanded our facilities by adding 2 feed shelters and a 30m² joey creche, a room dedicated to raising joeys is in progress. The joey creche will boasts 3 door access into separate areas of the sanctuary, opening into the joey compound, the kangaroo compound and internal access attached to our family home. Currently, we are in the process of raising funds to extending our 1-acre compounds by an additional 10 acres, providing sufficient room for our current mob and the forever growing number of orphans in need of a forever home. This expansion offers an established, naturally enriched environment, providing a secure haven where orphan joeys can grow to adult kangaroos and thrive in a naturally enriched naturescape. We will continue to expand as needed and are happy to dedicate up to 60 acres of our 87 acres to kangaroos in need.

About Me
Hi, I’m Pouchie, the founder and director of Pouchie.z Kangaroo Sanctuary. My passion for founding this sanctuary dates back to my childhood when I visited family friends who ran a wildlife sanctuary. It was there that my life's mission was born, and I became acutely aware of the desperate need for orphaned joeys to have a safe and enriched haven. The journey to establish Pouchie.z Kangaroo Sanctuary was not without its challenges. After the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent struggles with my mental health, I made the difficult decision to leave my job as a disability support worker. During this time of healing and self-reflection, I realised that everything had happened for a reason, and I found myself in the perfect situation to pursue my life's purpose by creating a sanctuary for vulnerable orphans.
Now I dedicate my live as an unpaid volunteer, making myself available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 356 days a year to rescuing and providing for orphan joeys.
